James Jerome LittleBull “John Pete” was born June 16, 1941 in Browning, Montana to Jim and Mabel LittleBull. He went to Heaven August 22, 2018 surrounded by his family at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA.
He was raised by his grandparents Jack and Mary LittleBull at the family ranch. He was an enrolled member of the Blackfeet tribe and spoke fluent Blackfeet, he was also a member of the Crazy Dog Society, his Blackfeet name is “Mee some quo mee”. He attended Coldfeet School in Two Medicine, where he rode a horse to the one room schoolhouse. He would later graduate from Browning High School in 1961, where he received the White Buffalo Award for not missing school from 1st to 12th grade. He lettered 3 years in football, track, and baseball, and was offered scholarships for his athletic abilities. While in high school, he would firefight and saved money to purchase his first car. He attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas and Boise State University; he also served in the U.S. air force.
Jerome met Phyllis Miller in 1961 at North America Indian Days in Browning, MT, and he would tell you it was the best cup of coffee he’s ever had. After a two year courtship, he stood before the family elder David Miller Sr. and asked for permission to marry Phyllis. On July 21st, 2018 they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. During their marriage, they lived in several places and had the chance to travel to many states with their 3 sons. Jerome was blessed with a large family that will miss his stories of his younger years. The last decade he has shown his family what a true man of God is by how he has lived. Jerome was also a charter member of the All Tribes Church in Wapato, WA.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis LittleBull; sons, Jeff (Holly), James, and Leroy (Kathy); 3 sisters, Bonnie Lou Begay, Eula LittleBull, and Joyce Vielle of Montana, and his brother Roy LittleBull of California. He has 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mabel LittleBull; grandparents, Jack and Mary LittleBull; brother, Virgil (Rocky) LittleBull; and sister, Baby girl LittleBull.
There will be a Dressing Friday, August 24, 2018, 9:00 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato, WA with overnight services to follow at their family home. Service will be Saturday, August 25, 2018, 7:00 a.m. at the All Tribes Church in Wapato, WA with burial to follow at the Union Gap Cemetery in Union Gap, WA.
