James R. Hendren 79, of Wapato died 18 Feb 2019 at home. Jim was born July 4, 1939 to Clarence and Wilma (Ohms) Hendren. He lived and received his education in Wapato and spent most of his life in the Yakima Valley. He joined the Army and spent time in Korea and received an honorable discharge from Ft Lewis. He worked several years making bins and pallets in Gleed before moving for a short time to Carson, Washington and working at a saw mill. When he returned to the Yakima area he went back to his old job in Gleed. He moved to White Swan where he was the care taker at the closed Indian Christian Mission until he retired.
He is survived by his son Paul Hendren and family of Montana and several nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousin/sister Delcie Broncheau of Pendleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gail Hendren and sister Patricia Bremer.
Jim was an enrolled Yakama and spent as much time as possible in the mountains, with his hounds, hunting bear and cougar. Not to kill but to track and tree and then call off his hounds.
He carried only a .38sp revolver for protection.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato, WA and burial with military honors at the Reservation Cemetery and potluck to follow.
