James Hayden Hall was born in San Diego, CA on December 9, 1942 to Darlene and James Mandeville, and later adopted by his step-father, Allan Hall. James passed away from heart failure in Yakima, WA on July 19, 2019.
Dad was a proud Californian who also cherished his time growing up in Los Alamos, NM. It was in Los Alamos that he met his life long friend, Jim Hodges. In New Mexico, dad became a confirmed Lutheran. As a young and adventurous man, Dad hitchhiked along Route 66 with a few buddies. Route 66 held a lifelong special place in his treasure box of memories. He grew up playing baseball, aspiring to be a major league player, but enlisted in the US Army after attending military school in San Diego.
Stationed at Ft. Lewis, he met his first wife Pam. They were married in June of 1963, and that union lasted 19 years producing two children, Kelly Ann and Stacy Lynn. The army lasted two years and he moved on to work at the Tahoma smelter, sold linens in San Diego, Tacoma and Yakima, peddled cars in a Seattle area car lot and proudly retired from Yakima County in the Maintenance Department after 19 years of service.
Upon moving back to the Pacific Northwest, he embraced the ability to easily travel from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean and desert lands. He adopted his web feet and fell in love with Washington State. Dad and Jan married on a blustery day in Ocean Shores, WA in October of 1982. She loved him for 37 years. Marrying Jim brought Jan another daughter to love, as Jan supplied two more children to add to Dad’s family tree, Bobby and Anita.
He loved to shop, especially enjoying the boutiques along the Pacific Ocean. Dad was a collector of treasures, knick-knacks, baseball caps, collector plates, colorful bottles, clipper ship models, anything turquoise, and Native American items. If it was pretty, he was attracted to it. Growing beautiful plants and a perfectly manicured yard as well as enjoying an immaculately clean home decorated tot he nines, were all important part of his world. Dogs were an integral part of his life as he always had one in the family home. His favorite greeting was a cold wet nose from his best dog. And if you were up for an argument, Dad was the guy to visit. He was always armed and ready for a heated discussion.
As a mature man, Dad slowed down and enjoyed the colorful sunsets and variety of backyard birds at his beloved Selah country home. He would often remark how he loved the wind whispering through the trees, because it reminded him of his childhood in Los Alamos where the wind would quake through the aspen. Lost in daydreams and reminiscing about days gone by became a major past time as he aged.
Dad leaves behind his beloved wife, Jan Hall, his children; Stacy (Tim) Ryan, Anita (Lon) King, and Bobby (Trish) Holt, grandchildren; Sara, Sami, Teddy, Talon (Ardena), Calon, Dillon, Clarissa, Kizzy, Mandy, Cassy, Bobby Jr, Travis, and the family dog, Ike.
Dad was met at Heaven’s Gates by his daughter, Kelly Ann, parents; Allan and Darlene Hall, brother, Scott, cherished grandparents; Merle and Zaida Davisson.
Special Thanks: Bob and Linda Gravelle, Roberta and Ron Hansen and Tony Dalton for years of support and love, all of the prayer warriors at Harvest Community Church and Praying Friends of Stacy and Anita, Dr. Danko Martincic for his sincere honesty, Nurse Shirley, floor 4, and ICU Nurses and aides at Astria, Yakima.
