James J. Dahlstrom passed away Aug. 7, 2017 at Cottage in the Meadow. He was born March 23, 1929 in Billings, Montana to Carl and Ada Dahlstrom. He was number five in a family of twelve children. James graduated from Fromberg High School in 1947 and immediately began his new life of 23 years in the US Army. James and Idonna Hartman were married in Reno, Nevada on Aug. 23, 1956. Army life gave them many great travels including his last tour of duty in The Hague, Netherlands where his family was able to go with him. What a great education. James is survived by his wife, Idonna, they would have been married 61 years on Aug. 23, 2017. Also surviving are his three wonderful children, daughter Terry Dahlstrom of Grandview, son Carl Dahlstrom and wife Aletha of Sunnyside and son, Earl Dahlstrom and wife Sandra of Yakima; his five grandchildren and six great grandchildren that have been the joy of his later years. He enjoyed many hours of basketball games and track meets with the grandchildren and watching the great grandchildren grow and change has been the highlight of his retirement years. Also surviving are his brother, Paul Dahlstrom; four sisters, Mary Alice DeVries, Dona Ullman, Carlene Beley, and Betty Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ada Dahlstrom; brothers, Donald, Earl and Vernon Dahlstrom; sisters, Laurine Anderson, Mildred Dawson and Edith Woodley. As were his wishes, private family burial will be at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima with full military honors.
