Jacquelyn Heffron, homemaker, baker and pinochle enthusiast passed away December 25 after 87 years of life.
The youngest of 9 children Jackie was born in Yelm, WA and a descendent of James Longmire. She often spoke of her older brother, Jimmie who served bravely in World War II and lost his life in Tarawa when she was 11 years old. It was a sad and tragic event for her and her family and all that knew him and he was never forgotten.
When she was a young teenager, she and her sisters and mother moved to Sunnyside to be closer to her brother Louie and his family. There she attended Sunnyside High School and after graduation worked in a local bank where she met her future husband, Lyle who went by Bill (deceased). They married in 1952 and thereafter Bill joined the Navy and they moved to San Diego where they lived during his four years of service. After leaving the Navy, they moved back to Sunnyside for a few years and then Bill took an accounting job in Vancouver, WA. They lived there most of their married life raising their 3 children.
In 1979, her father-in-law passed away and they moved back to Sunnyside to manage the cherry orchard he left behind. She and Bill spent 10 years working tirelessly doing all the things necessary to bring about a successful cherry season. But after those 10 years, Bill passed away from mesothelioma. Jackie then moved back to Vancouver. After a few short years she realized she wanted to be closer to her grandchildren and decided to make Selah her final home. She resided there for the past 21 years.
Jackie will always be remembered for not being shy to express her opinions, her sense of humor, her love of football, sewing, reading, and playing cards, mostly pinochle but she enjoyed bingo and bunko as well. She looked forward to every Tuesday and Thursday to join her pinochle group and play for 3 hours. She also had a gift for cooking, baking and creating a warm and cozy home. But people that lived around her and those who walked by her home got to enjoy her special gift of gardening. She had a unique ability of being able to plant everything, down to all the beautiful flowers in a way that was pleasing to the eye. All that knew Jackie will think of her every time they see all the rose bushes, trees and shrubs she put in over the years.
Jackie leaves behind 3 children, William James, Carolyn and Joseph; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, Jessica, Sydney, Jeremiah and Kadence; 2 great grandchildren, Owen and Taja; and her dog, Jack. She requested no formal services, however those interested in having a get together to reminisce about their friendship with her, please contact her daughter Carolyn at caheffron@yahoo.com.
