Jackie Allen Duncan, also known as Jack, passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 89 in Sunnyside, Washington. He was born on July 12, 1933, in Ellensburg, Washington. Jack was preceded in death by his father, William “Jack” Duncan, his mother, Beulah Duncan, his brothers, Harold, Ernest and Robert Duncan and his wife Agnes Goben Duncan, whom he married in October 1984. Jack is survived by his daughter, Gail Collins; his son Gary Duncan; his former wife, Barbara Delp Duncan Kroes, whom he married in November 1956; his grandchildren, Chad Collins, Kaela Nash, Heather Behee, Adam Walker-Duncan, Ariel Walker-Duncan, Kali Jo Collins, Axel Collins, Ethan Flores, Laela Flores, Olivia Massey, Llesenia Massey, Chase Massey, Jacob Massey, Caroline Humpherys and Alayna Ogg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack attended Buena primary school, Toppenish High School, and Moser Barber College. He also served in the United States Navy for three years, assigned to the USS Breckenridge after bootcamp. After his Honorable Discharge from Military Service, Jack spent several years as a general laborer at Mt. Arbor Nursery in Zillah, Washington, before attending Barber College. He worked at several barber shops in Yakima and Sunnyside, Washington for several years prior to opening, owning and operating Jack’s Barber Shop in Zillah, until his retirement. Jack loved listening to and playing Country-Western music. He was an accomplished, self-taught musician; playing guitar, banjo, and stand-up bass guitar in several bands with long-time friends who regularly jammed and occasionally played gigs in the Yakima Valley. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion. Jack enjoyed attending and participating in family gatherings. His laid-back, easy-going demeanor and sense of humor was second to none and welcomed by all. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be announced and held in the near future to honor Jack’s life and legacy.
