Jack Collins 12/15/1930 – 01/27/2018
Jack was born in Zillah, WA to John and Mona Collins. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita; brother Ted Collins; his children: Lee Collins (Barb), Pam Williams (Gary), Judy Collins (Mike), Connie Southey (Craig), 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray Collins, and grandson Greg Collins.
As a child Jack’s family moved around following the harvest until they settled on the farm in White Bluffs, then moving to the Zillah property. He graduated from Toppenish High School and went into the Air Force until he had to return home on a family hardship to help on the farm.
Jack then met and married Juanita and they began a very active and loving life together, raising their four children. The family moved to Lynnwood, WA where Jack worked in construction his entire life. He retired from GTE at the age of 62 as the Land and Building Supervisor of the West Coast.
Jack was a Mason, Shriner, Elk, and Past Commodore of the Everett Yacht Club. After retiring, Jack and Juanita restored a classic wooden boat the “Ossee Jo”. Lastly, purchasing a motor home, they traveled the U.S. with the Holiday Ramblers becoming snowbirds, spending summers in Lynwood and winters in Yuma, AZ. Sadly, Juanita was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and he spent the rest of his life caring for her, returning to Yakima in 2016.
Jack passed peacefully at Virginia Mason memorial from complications of a heart attack surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Lane, Yakima). A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at West Hills Memorial Park.
