Irinea N. Graganta, 90, passed away Friday November 21, 2025 at Yakima Memorial Hospital. Irene was born October 3, 1935 in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Herminio & Cecilia (Ugot) Naanep.
Irene married John B. Graganta, Sr in February of 1974 in the Philippines, arriving in the United States later that year and spent 23 years together before his death in 1997. She spent her life as a housewife/homemaker, roadside fruit/vegetable saleswoman at the stand on Lateral A and mother to John Jr. Irene also found time to garden oriental vegetables as well as be a member and volunteer of the Filipino American Community of Yakima Valley (FACYV). She partook in the lumpia rolling crew, building the FACYV Wapato Harvest Festival float, was part of the Dancing Lolas and participated in may other activities at “The Hall” throughout the decades. Her “winter” activities also included sewing and crocheting blankets and table toppers while watching her favorite shows and soap operas.
Irene is survived by her son, John N. Graganta, Jr of Wapato, WA, her sisters in the Philippines, and numerous nephews and nieces throughout the world. She is preceded by her husband, John Sr, father and mother, Herminio & Cecilia Naanep.
Family & friends are invited to a viewing Friday, December 5, 2025 from 4pm to 8pm at the Valley Hills Funeral Home, 218 W 3rd St, Wapato, WA. Funeral service is Saturday, December 6, 2025, 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Valley Hills Chapel in Wapato with internment at Reservation Community Memorial Park, 5161 W. Wapato Rd, Wapato, WA.
