Irene Rodriguez Hernandez, of Harrah, WA went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 18, 2018 at Cottage in the Meadow at the age of 80 years old. Irene was born on October 20, 1938 in Poteet, Texas to Salvador and Timotea Rodriguez.
She married Juan M. Hernandez on April 12, 1959 in the town of Poteet, Texas. They were married for 59 years. In 1963, Irene moved to Brownstown, Washington with her family of four and all their belonging in search of a new beginning. In 1969, she would later move to the town of Harrah, Washington with a family of six. Irene worked in the agricultural crops of mint and sugar beets before being employed by Del Monte cannery of Toppenish in 1983. After 22 years within the company, Irene retired in 2005.
Irene deeply loved her family and was known to be generous with many friends within the Yakima Valley. She enjoyed leisure times working in the yard, gardening, crocheting, and going to family gatherings for birthdays and celebrations. Irene was a member at the Apostolic Assembly Church of Yakima. Her Christian faith was very important to her. In her early years, Irene served as the president of the women’s auxiliary “Dorcas” group, in which she enjoyed cooking alongside her fellow sisters in Christ.
She is preceded in death by her six-year-old son, Johnny Hernandez Jr., who passed away in 1969. She is survived by her two sons; Alexander Hernandez and Samuel Hernandez, five daughters; Rosie Hernandez, Geneva Gonzalez, Gloria Solis, Diana Valdez, and Anita Mountlear, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home (218 W. 3rd St., Wapato, WA 98933). Burial to follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park (5161 W. Wapato Rd., Wapato, WA 98933).
