Hunter Nedry

April 13, 1994 — February 10, 2023

Our beloved Hunter continued his journey February 10, 2023. He was born 28 years ago in Yakima WA on April 13, 1994. Hunter enjoyed a large family that included his parents and sister, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Get togethers were busy events that were full of love, joy, and fun. Every Christmas he and his sister and cousins did the important annual job of building and decorating gingerbread houses, and each Easter there would be a large easter egg hunt that elicited much excitement. The annual 4th of July beach vacations was a fun family affair that included climbing trees, campfires, searching for crabs and seashells, and fireworks on the beach. He loved to swim and spent many summer days having fun swimming with his sister and cousins, and he had a great time in the winter snowmobiling in the mountains. Hunter was a deep thinker and spent many hours talking about things that were far beyond his years. He was funny, witty and had a sharp and clever mind. He was also independent, stubborn, and opinionated and we loved him. He was an avid reader and at the age of 10 was able to retain nearly every fact of American history. He loved his pet cockatiel, that he named Hazel, so much that one afternoon he was found asleep on the couch with his bird asleep on his back. He also had a pet goose that followed him everywhere. He was once spotted running around the house with the goose on his head flapping its wings wildly and as he ran past his mom, he yelled… “I’m trying to teach Gill how to fly mom!” Hunter was an incredible person and was loved by his large family and many friends. Hunter became a victim of mental illness and drug addiction and despite his families’ efforts became homeless, but he was not defined by this as he was so much more. Despite his challenges he never lost his witty and clever personality. He loved the outdoors and would look up at the trees around him with appreciation. He talked often about the beauty of plants, flowers, and birds. People may think that homelessness, mental health challenges and addiction only happen to other people and their families. No one is immune from this devastating reality that brings so much pain to its victims and the people who love them. Behind each homeless face is a personality, like Hunter, that is humorous, sincere, wise, and feeling. He will be deeply missed. Hunter is survived by his Mother April Elizabeth Liu (Charles), Sister Elen Hill and Nephew Noah, and Father Todd Nedry, Grandparents Mickey and Karen Panarello, Grandmother Margo Hill, and Grandfather Rick Law. He is also survived by 14 aunts and uncles, and 20 cousins and their children. He is preceded in death by his Grandpa Daryl Hill, Grandpa Ross Nedry, Grandma Karen Law and Uncle Kevin Hill. We want to extend, with gratitude a heartfelt thank you to Mike and Zach and the rest of his Camp Hope family, his Shari’s family, to the YPD officers and the Crisis response team, with a special thanks to Elizabeth. We also want to thank all of Hunter’s other guardian angels in the community that cared for him and helped us look after him. There will be a celebration of life for Hunter at the Yakima Arboretum, February 26, 2023 at 1:00pm and everyone is welcome. At his service there will be a donation table set up for Camp Hope.
