Hilda Flathers

February 19, 1926 — February 10, 2016

“If you don’t know who to vote for, vote for the nicer looking one. You are going to have to look at them for the next four years.”- Grandma Flathers Hilda Flathers, just nine days short of turning ninety, passed, on Wednesday February 10, 2016. Surrounded by family, she was comforted and knew that her legacy will live on. Hilda, always witty and full of life, left her family with many fond memories and advice that no therapist could provide. Her energetic personality allowed her to embrace each day as it came. Hilda, survived by sister Dolores Twigg age 85, four children Robert Bacon, Donna Stratton, David Flathers, Dan Flathers, 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a plethora of nieces and nephews, will be remembered for her strength, honesty, guidance and loving arms. Hilda has left a remarkable stamp on this Earth; with hopes that at least one of her 69 remaining family members can continue to carry her torch for love in life. Hilda accomplished many things in life that were of value and importance, but, her true accomplishments were in her family and friends. Up until the day she passed, Hilda would share moments of playing cards at the senior center and visiting with her friends. She reminisced of dancing until her legs numbed. Memories of her children and grandchildren would often make her giggle. She had many hobbies including ceramic arts, painting, needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and “wood.” Baking, cleaning and gardening could all be added to this list, as this woman brought joy to every chore. Hilda always enjoyed a good time and is remembered for her bright smile and silly commentary. Hilda is now reunited with late husband Richard Flathers, missed son Jim Bacon, his wife Jackie, sister Eileen Agness and brother Forest Sauter. We love you Granny, and fellas if your lucky, she just might teach you to dance... A Memorial Service in her honor will be 11:00am, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Central Lutheran Church (1604 W. Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902). To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Hilda Flathers, please visit our flower store.
