Harold Howard

November 12, 1922 — June 24, 2016

Harold William Howard was born on November 12, 1922 in Seneca Township Missouri. His early years were spent in the Ozarks and his family moved to Washington in the 1930’s with the “Dust Bowl” migration. In 1942 he married the love of his life, Wanda Smith and they shared more than 69 years together while raising their four children. The majority of Harold’s working life was spent as an orchardist in the Buena Heights area. He enjoyed family camping trips, playing horseshoes and fishing in the Potholes. He and Wanda bowled on many leagues during the 80’s and they were members of the Toppenish Eagles. Harold was a noted “horse trader,” trading for boats and trucks. He had a passion for music and in his younger years, played guitar and harmonica and called for local square dances. In his later years, as his mobility waned, he remained a force to be reckoned with at the card table. He loved his family and was always considered a good neighbor. He saw many changes in his lifetime from plowing fields behind a team of horses to checking his email on the computer. He was born in a log cabin, and on June 24th, 2016 he passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. We will miss his ornery spirit and the colorful yarns he told about the good old days He is preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Howard Delozier and Earl Howard and his wife, Wanda Howard. He is survived by his four children, Roger Howard (Sandy), Joanne Rosen (Leonard), Jim Howard and Steve Howard (Jane), as well as 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at his home on July 9th from 12 – 4 p.m. It will be an open house and potluck.
