She later on married Leonard Brooks on June 18, 1948. She became a certified registered nurse and was the director of nurses for many years. Her hobbies included gardening with her great-grandson Ajani, traveling with her husband to Europe and the Hawaiian Islands, relaxing at their Cle Elum home at Lake Morel, as well as painting.
Gwendolyn was so proud of her granddaughters, Sarah Valenzuela, Tiffany (Daniel) Cardenas, Tiana and Talia Labat. She was devoted to her great-granddaughter, Isabella and her eight great-grandsons, Makai, Amani, Xavier Jr., Ajani, Daniel Jr., Asani, Aiden and Mateo. She is survived by her only daughter, Sandra Labat.
She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 59 years, Leonard Brooks, her son, John (Colleen) Brooks and her grandson-in-law Xavier (Sarah) Valenzuela Sr. Her passion was caring for her animals, family, friends and attending her church. She was always available to cheer on her great grandson Xavier during his baseball games, and also enjoyed cooking with her great-grandsons Ajani and Asani.
