Grover C. Fish Jr. passed from this life on November 22, 2014. He was born to Grover C Fish and Ella Mae Knipe Fish. Grover attended high school in Granger, Wash. He joined the Navy in 1943, beginning with basic training in Farragut, Idaho and served at NAS Moffitt Field and the Pacific Theater.
In 1946 he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Nass. They were the proud parents of Jackie, Buddy, and Jan. In his younger years he was active in Men’s Choir, semi pro baseball, bowling, and softball. He coached several pee wee baseball teams and umpired at that level. He enjoyed spending time with his six grandsons, especially composing songs for them. Their favorite was Oysters In The Spaghetti Tree.
Grover was a mechanic as a young man. He later became head of Maintenance of Sun Towers Retirement Home at its opening, until his retirement.
In 1981 he married Hermine Gruber. He became the proud dad to five of Hermine’s children and Opa to 16 grandchildren. Grover and Hermine enjoyed traveling, and in their younger years, camping. Together they put many miles on their camper vans.
Grover was a long time active member of the First Baptist Church in Yakima until his health prevented him from attending.
He is preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, his first wife, Evelyn, grandson, Matt Hopwood, and step daughter, Liese Fish.
His is survived by his wife, Hermine, daughter, Jackie (Lyle) Baker, of Yakima, son Buddy (Nancy) Fish, of Kennewick, and daughter Jan (Rashad) Karastan, of Bothell, step sons Max (Barbara) Gruber, of Marysville, Erich (Diana), of Everett, son in law, Bill (Liese) Fish, of Everett, step daughters, Heidi (Tim) Kjos, of Mt Vernon, and Monika (Victor) Immel, of Yakima, as well as 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in the Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A Celebration Of Life service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Yakima Ave. at 12:00 on Saturday, November 29th. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
