It is with great sadness that the family of Grace Edith Switzer (Hacker) announces her passing on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 at the age of 80 years. Grace will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sandy (Chris), Joe (Jill), Donald “Butch” and Cindy (Jerry) Kimes. Grace will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Jason, Nicole, Zachary, Ryan, Astasia, Jake, and Calvin; great grandchildren: Christian, Courtney, Olivia, and Jack. Her brothers Merle Hacker and Claude Hacker also survive her. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Hacker, mother Grace Hacker (Turvey) and husband of 53 years, Willie Fred Switzer.
Grace was born July 30th, 1938 in San Diego, CA to Albert and Grace (Turvey) Hacker. The only sister to four brothers, she could hold her own against anyone. Grace moved to the Yakima Area as young child where she made many life long friends. It’s where she met her husband Willie Switzer. They were married in 1955 and went on to raise four children together.
After her first grandson was born Grace left the workforce to care for him during the day. She went on to do this for all seven grandchildren. She later opened an in home daycare and to every child that came and went she was also “Grandma Grace”.
Grace had many significant talents and hobbies; she was an impressive seamstress and quilter, a cake decorator and a video game enthusiast. She shared her time and her talent with anyone who needed it and she could always make time for a project.
Grace will be forever remembered; her kindness and unwavering sense of right and wrong left an impression on everyone who knew her.
A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Tahoma Cemetery (1802 Tahoma Ave., Yakima, WA).
