In Loving Memory of Gilberto Bernal
May 26, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Bernal
on May 26, 2026, at the age of 52. Gilbert leaves behind countless
cherished memories and touched the hearts of his family, friends,
community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gilbert was born in Hillsboro, Oregon, to Gonzalo Bernal and Rosa Isela
Molina. He was raised in Toppenish, Washington, where he formed many
lifelong friendships. He attended Seventh-day Adventist School in
Wapato, Washington, completed his high school education in Toppenish,
and later continued his studies at Perry Technical Institute.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Gonzalo Bernal, and his
brother, Mario Bernal.
He is survived by his mother, Rosa Isela Molina; his loving wife, Maria
Isabel Bernal (Canseco); his daughter, Geovana A. Bernal, and
son-in-law, Alexander R. Ferguson; his son, Elisha S. Bernal; and his
beloved grandson, Jameson Ray Ferguson. He is also survived by his
sisters, Blanca Estela Molina Bernal and Gabriella Bernal, and his
brothers, Gonzalo Bernal, Gabriel Bernal, Miguel Bernal, and Juan
Bernal, Rico J Bernal.
Gilbert met the love of his life, Maria, while they were both working
at El Ranchito in Zillah in 1990. Their friendship blossomed into a
lifelong love, and they were married on June 12, 1994. While pursuing
his education to build a better future for his family, they lived in
Selah, Washington. After completing his studies, Gilbert and his
family made their home in Kelso, Washington, in 2003.
Gilbert found a spiritual home at Journey Seventh-day Adventist
Church, where he faithfully served Jesus, his church family, and his
community. Even when Maria traveled to visit family in the Lower
Valley Gilbert sometimes was unable to accompany Maria, he remained devoted to
serving others and carrying out God's work.
Gilbert treasured every opportunity to spend time with his family and
friends in the Lower Valley. The moments he shared with loved ones,
especially the children in his family, were priceless and will forever
be remembered. His warmth, kindness, and joyful presence made a
lasting impact on everyone he met.
A brave and compassionate soul, Gilbert lived a life marked by
generosity, faith, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His
presence brought comfort, laughter, and joy to those around him.
Though he has departed from this earthly life, his spirit will
continue to live on through the memories, lessons, and love he shared
with others.
As we bid farewell to Gilbert Bernal, we invite family and friends to
join us in celebrating his life.
