Gilbert Acosta

January 2, 1981 — March 6, 2025

Gilbert Acosta Jr was embraced in the loving arms of his Father Jesus Christ on March 6, 2025. Gibby, as he was also known, had a spirit that touched the hearts of many. Though his circumstances were often difficult, he remained a part of our world, reminding us all of the importance of compassion and humanity. He was born January 2, 1981 to Gilbert Sr. and Norma Acosta in Yakima Washington. The youngest of three siblings, Jr. was known for his humor, warmth, and willingness to share a smile, even in the face of adversity. He had an indomitable spirit and a heart full of hope. His education started in Mabton, but he eventually graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1999. During his brief marriage to Amanda Soto, they welcomed three amazing children. Cristian, Brooklyn and Roman. His happiest moments were those he spent with his beloved children. Gilbert Jr. was also a lifelong baseball fan whose love for the game was a defining part of his life. His passion for the sport was contagious, and he could often be found cheering for the NY Yankees. He worked a variety of jobs during his life but found his passion in creating meals and menus for those he loved. His love for food and people was evident in every meal prepared. Gibby was a person who, despite his hardships, always looked out for others in need. And we will continue to honor his memory as we celebrate his life. Gilbert Jr. was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by his mother Norma Acosta. Surviving relatives include his children: Cristian Acosta, Brooklyn Acosta and Roman Acosta. His loving father Gilbert Acosta Sr, brother Stephen Acosta (Sandra) sister Leticia Echevarria (Robert) and many other friends and family. A service to honor and celebrate Gibby’s life will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on April 11, 2025. Rosary begins at 10AM with Mass to follow. We invite all who knew and loved Gilbert Jr. to join us in remembering a life well-lived and come wearing anything NY Yankees.
