Gertrude Hernandez

Gertrude Josefina Hernandez,93, of Yakima passed away on May 15, 2014. She was surrounded by her family members. She was born November 15, 1920 in Blythe, California to Andres and Josefina Castro. She attended Catholic School in California. She met the love of her life and married Hipolito Hernandez Sr. in 1936. They were married for 20 years. They soon started their family having nine children; Aurora, Reyes, Maria Elena, Jesus, Elvira, Catarino, Damiana, Rosa and Hipolito Jr. They started their family in McAllen, Texas and moved to the Yakima Valley in 1963. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking for her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her large family brought her much pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents; Andres and Josefina Castro, her two children; Reyes and Maria Elena Hernandez; her husband, Hipolito Hernandez Sr.; and her grandchildren, Josefina and Rosa Maria Robles, Jose, Jacobo, Mario and Jesus Negrete and Catarino Hernandez Jr. She is survived by her children; Aurora H. Negrete, Jesus and wife Dominga Hernandez, Elvira Hernandez, Catarino and wife Mary Hernandez, Damiana Hernandez, Rosa Hernandez and Hipolito Hernandez Jr. along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm with recitation of the rosary at 6pm on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 10am at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
