Georgia (Redding) Holloway, Hughes passed from this life on November 18, 2014 in Yakima Regional Hospital, Yakima, WA at the age of 87.
Born in Harper County, in the Ellendale community southwest of Freedom, OK, February 22, 1927, she was the third of five children born to Glen and Leona Redding.
Georgia was baptized in 1941 at the Freedom Christian Church. She attended Prairie Hill rural school and entered Freedom, OK school in 1939, graduating in 1943 at the age of 16.
Georgia married Heber Leon Holloway in 1944. To this union five children were born: Gary Leon in 1944, Merlena June in 1946, Roger Dean in 1948, Betty Lou in 1953 and Linda Kay in 1961.
Georgia was employed by two of South Dakota’s governors, Joe Foss and Ralph Herseth.
She and Heber farmed and raised their children on a farm six miles east of Blunt, SD from 1950 to 1963. The family then relocated to Yakima, WA.
In 1968, Georgia, Heber, Betty and Linda returned to OK. Georgia worked at the Mooreland Golden Age nursing home for twelve years.
Georgia’s favorite pastime was crocheting and the beautiful afghans and doilies she made and gave as gifts showed her love of crocheting.
Heber passed away in 1999 and in 2002 Georgia married Oscar Hughes.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Merlena, husband Heber, grandson Doug Parrish, great granddaughter Maia Jayne Couture, her parents Glen and Leona Redding, sister Jackie and husband Oscar Hughes.
Those left to cherish her memories are son Gary and wife Pauline of Selah, WA; son Roger and wife Debbie of Soap Lake, WA; daughter Betty of Cherokee, OK and daughter Linda of Dallas, TX; grandchildren: Cindy Bjerke and husband Al, Terry Holloway and wife Karen, Dennis Holloway and wife Jana, Susan Couture and husband Jeff, Jeff Darr, Kirk Darr and wife Christina, Nathan Rose, Clayton Mosman and Nelson Mosman; sisters: Wanda Milan of Dallas, TX, Phyllis Rice of Mesquite, TX and brother Glen Dean Redding of MO; also 13 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Georgia’s sons Gary and Roger moved her from OK to Washington in January of 2014 to live out her last days in Washington.
There will be a celebration of life for Georgia at a later date.
