George Edward Town, age 71, of Cowiche, Washington, passed away on May 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 15, 1953, George was a dedicated public servant, veteran, and beloved family man whose life touched many. George proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy for seven years. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career in law enforcement, joining the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office in 1983. He faithfully served the community until his retirement in 2015. Afterward, George continued his commitment to public service by working at the Federal Courthouse in Yakima until 2020, when he fully retired. In addition to his professional career, George was a devoted volunteer firefighter, serving his community from the age of 18 until April 2025. His dedication to public safety extended beyond his paid roles, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to helping others. He was also a passionate soccer referee in Yakima for 15 years and drove a truck in his spare time for Michaelson’s Packaging. George and Tracy also spent summers running their Sno-On-The-Go Shave Ice business at local events in Yakima. Family was at the heart of George’s life. He loved taking his sons, Eric, and Ryan, skiing each winter at White Pass, and spent summers camping and boating with family and friends—always at the center of laughter, adventure, and fun. He was a tinkerer who could fix anything, an avid poker player, a dog lover who shared his bed with every family pet, and someone who made friends wherever he went. George could talk to anyone about anything and was always quick with a joke or a helping hand. George is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Tracy Town; his younger son, Ryan Town; his brother, Bob Town, and wife Ellie; his sister, Mary Woodgate, and husband Neil; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his elder son, Eric Town, and his parents, George and Ellen Town, whose memories remained close to his heart. George’s strength, resilience, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His family and friends will forever cherish his warmth, humor, and unwavering spirit. A celebration of George’s life will be held on May 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at West Valley Nazarene Church, 7109 W. Nob Hill Blvd., Yakima, WA. This will be followed by a reception at Highland Fire Department, 330 Cowiche City Rd., Cowiche, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Yakima Search and Rescue or Highland Fire Department in George’s honor through Valley Hills Funeral Home. The family extends special thanks to the Highland Fire Department and the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office for their unwavering support. A heartfelt thank you is also given to Lili Causor for the love, support, and strength she gave George throughout his journey.
