GEORGE McCLAINE was born on January 27, 1932, to Oscar & Marian Myers McClaine in Eau Claire, Wisc. He passed away Sunday August 14th in his home in Yakima, Washington. He was 84 years old.
The family moved to Grandview in 1934 and into the Seattle area two years later, where he graduated from Cleveland High School. He served with the Occupation Forces in Germany where he made the rank of Corporal “several times” as he told it.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary McClaine, sons Steve & Scott McClaine, daughter Carmelita Orr, and step-son Tim Van Wechel. Other survivors include his sisters, Betty Jean Howard and Pat Forza, and 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a hard working union member for 60 years, most recently of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 598. He served on the Washington State Labor Council, the Democratic Party, the Boy Scouts, and Genealogical Society.
George McClaine was a generous, helpful man who was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He is described by his sisters as a “good, kind, helpful, cheerful, and encouraging brother.” He was a helpful mentor, optimistic, always looking at the bright side of things, had a quick sense of humor, and was patient, fair & resilient.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at Wiley Union Church, 2711 S. Wiley Road, Yakima. Reception to follow at church. Interment will be at Holland Cemetery.
