Gene Owen

Gene passed away on Feb 3rd, 2014. He was born in Hanover NH on May 3rd, 1932 to Foster and May Owen. The family moved to Bremerton WA where Gene graduated in 1950. After graduation he served in the Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1950 to 1954. Gene was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Union Gap Lions Club, serving as Zone Chairman for two terms. Gene was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. In his younger years Gene worked for Case Power and Equipment selling heavy equipment and also Selzler Worden selling orchard sprayers and smaller orchard tractors. After that he and his wife Gayle formed Gene’s Truck Rental, renting moving trucks for Ryder Truck and later Penske Truck Rental for 34 years. They retired in 2009. Gene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gayle Owen, his children Peter Owen of San Antonio, May Beth Perez of San Antonio, Marty Owen of San Diego, Kathy Owen of White Salmon, WA, and also Georgene (GG) Anderson of New Mexico. His brother Pete Owen of Utah, and sister Sue Miller of Vancouver, WA. His surviving step-children, whom he loved as his own, are: Mark Weber of Yakima, Lance Weber of Union Gap, Darren Weber of Union Gap, and Kelly Lane of Auburn and numerous grand children and great-grandchildren. His last two Boston Terriers, Fred and Freda will be lost without him. “Break out the jug and clubs, Mercer, I’m on my way.” A family memorial get-together will be held at a later date.
