Gayle Louise Durand, 72, passed away on February 17, 2014 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 16, 1941 in Yakima to Earl and Thelma (Wayburn) Shook. Gayle graduated from Yakima High School and attended Yakima Valley Community College. She spent time as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Idaho and at Yakima Regional Hospital. She was also a Teacher’s Aide at Barge Lincoln Elementary School and she worked at Kwik Lock. She married Laine William Durand on March 3, 1980. She loved to follow her family and friends on Facebook and she loved Bingo and playing games. Her love of life and the Lord were evident in how she lived her life. Gayle was dedicated to her family and loved following their lives from afar. Spending most of her time in her last few years homebound, Gayle could always be found on the Internet leaving encouraging messages or doting over her 19 great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Fred (Leslie) Brooking of Great Falls, MT; daughter, Bonnie (Vic) Beard of Yakima; stepson, David (Rebecca) Peterson of Moses Lake; stepdaughters, Laurie (Jim) Brown of Spokane Valley and Denise Peterson of Ephrata; sister, Marilyn (Harold) Wright of Lincoln City, OR; grandchildren, Amanda Hoovestol; Jennifer White; Jessica Sanders; Michael, Daniel, Brandon, Joshua, Brian, Jerry, Chris, and Christine Brooking; Jessica Boberg; Jacob, Randy, and Ray Peterson; Samantha Krueger; Megan Brown; and Tracy Ludington; and 19 great grandchildren. Gayle was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Brooking; daughter, Marie Reed; husband, Laine Durand; Brother, Buzz Shook; and her parents, Earl and Thelma Shook. A Celebration of Life potluck will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Glenwood Square, 5110 Tieton Dr. Suite 260 in Yakima from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Share your memories of Gayle online at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
