Freda Gering

Freda Gering died March 17, 2013 at Crescent Healthcare, where she had resided the past year. She was born on February 7, 1917, in Warden, Washington to Adam and Katrina Trautman. She was the only girl with four brothers. She married Lewis Worrell at age 18 and together they had three children, Donald, Shirley and Delbert. They had several challenges including Delbert who contracted polio at 17 months, and Donald who died at age 37 due to brain cancer. After Lewis suffered a stroke, mom cared for him while trying to work to earn an income. After Lewis’s death in 1970, she later married Jonathan Gering. He was a devoted Christian and was so good to mom. They traveled extensively throughout the world and these years were some of the happiest of her life. She was a lifelong member of Stone Church Assembly of God. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Herbert, William, David and Emil Trautman, son Donald and husbands Lewis Worrell and Jonathan Gering. Survivors include daughter Shirley Barker (Jack) of Pasco, son Delbert Worrell (Glenda) of Yakima, and a special daughter-in-law, Reidun Fields of Kent. Other survivors include grandchildren Todd Barker of Yakima. Rev. Mark Barker (Krysta) of Richland, Melodie Shoemaker of Lake Tapps, Gina Holloway (Don) of Yakima, and Ann Marie Fields of Auburn. Also surviving are brother-in-law Dennis Worrell (Ruby) of Yakima, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21st at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. also on Thursday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima. Those wishing to attend the burial should meet at the cemetery.
