Floyd Sharp

January 29, 1932 — November 25, 2014

Selah, WA – Floyd D. Sharp, 82, passed peacefully at home from complications of lung cancer. He was born January 29, 1932, in Yakima, Washington, to Christian and Jessie Sharp. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi as well as Iwakuni, Japan. Throughout his service Floyd found a way to be both patriot and pacifist by being true to his beliefs, the steadfast and honorable man he was raised to be. After being discharged from the service Floyd returned to Yakima, where he met the girl of his dreams at the local roller skating rink. He knew a good thing when he found it and soon proposed to Carol. They married in 1956 and shared 58 ½ years hand-in-hand. Together they worked hard, built a beautiful home, of his design, in Selah, and raised three children in a house filled with love and music and humor. Floyd was always quick with a quip, a story, a joke, and the best hugs. He was smart, funny, kind and generous, and always had a project to work on. He worked hard to provide for his family, and gave generously of his time. He made friends wherever he went, always finding something in common to talk about. Floyd worked for Yakima Hardware for over 30 years and then went to work for C. & H. Hardware for another eleven before retiring in 1996. He also worked as a self-employed locksmith for over 30 years, until his diagnosis in 2013. He was a long time member of the Camarata Men’s Choir and enjoyed singing and traveling with them whenever possible. He did many crafts, using a variety of mediums from wood to yarn, which he generously shared with anyone who might treasure them. Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Theron, Emmert, Harry, and Wilford Sharp, and sister, Grace (Sharp) Buck. Survivors include his wife Carol Sharp, and married children: Laurie and Steve Newberry, Dale and Gladys Sharp, Judy and Chris Kilpatrick. Also, grandchildren: Sarah and Rose, Amanda, Laura and Christian, and Kelli. Two great-granddaughters: Zelda and Alleria. Viewing is planned for Thursday, December 4th, from 2-7 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. Funeral is scheduled for Friday, December 5th, 1:00 PM, at the Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A reception and celebration will follow at New Hope Community Church in Terrace Heights. Private burial will be at West Hills Memorial Park, Yakima. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the amazing care and compassion provided by Dr. Albert Brady and his staff, Memorial Hospital, Willow Springs Rehab, and Heartlinks Hospice. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
