Ferne A. Garrison of Yakima passed away peacefully on August 15 at Cottage in the Meadow surrounded by her family. Ferne was born in Homer, Nebraska in 1924 to Bettie and Edward Clift. She was the youngest of ten children. Ferne was raised and educated in Homer, Nebraska.
In 1955 she and her husband, Victor Garrison, moved to Zillah, Washington, where they raised their five children. Ferne was employed at Stokely Van Camp for several years. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing as well as baking. Ferne’s chicken and homemade noodles will be missed by many.
For 27 years, Ferne was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where she was very active in numerous functions, including altar guild, quilting group and Brown Bag Bible Study. She was always a willing volunteer in the kitchen as well as helping with the monthly newsletter.
Ferne is survived by her children, Mary (Bob) Hibbs of Albany, Oregon, Rodney (Shirley) Garrison of Yakima, Vickie (Jack) Puyear of Meridian, Idaho, Nita (Gil) Hendricks of Zillah, Washington, her nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, her son, Richard, three brothers, and five sisters.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Ponderosa Assisted Living Community, especially Chris Dorey. We are indebted to Dick & Sharon Thomas for their friendship and spiritual support. Also thanks for the comforting care she and her family received at Cottage in the Meadow.
Viewing will be held at Valley Hills in Yakima on Tuesday, August 19, from 4 – 8 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 7809 Tieton Drive in Yakima on August 20 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at the Zillah Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any donations to go to Cottage in the Meadow or Mt. Olives Lutheran Church.
