Esther Sophia Hoffbauer
Esther Hoffbauer died on Monday morning, Jan. 25. She was born May 13, 1912, in Traer, Kan., as Esther Sophia Jording.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hoffbauer, her daughter Doreen Joyce Miller, and her 14 siblings. She was the sole surviving family member of 15 children.
She married Paul Hoffbauer in Oberlin, Kan., in 1932 and farmed a large dry wheat farm outside of Oberlin for 30 years, until their move to Toppenish in 1968 to be close to both of their children, Doreen and Carrol, and their five grandchildren.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Toppenish since 1968, where she was president of the Ladies Group.
She volunteered at the Toppenish Rehabilitation and Nursing Home facility for 30 years, running the craft department there. In her last few years she was a resident at the facility.
She is survived by her son, Carroll Hoffbauer, his wife Claudia Hoffbauer, grandchild Dale Hoffbauer and his wife, Julia Hoffbauer, and twin great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Kyla, all of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughter, Diane Harris, Danny Harris, Denise Lawrence, Darla Kichler, husband, Pat Kichler; great-grandchildren Heather and John Boyd, Mathew Lawrence, Whitney Lawrence and Nathan Sanders.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 4-7pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Church services to celebrate her life will be on, Jan. 30, at Faith Lutheran Church in Toppenish at 1 p.m. She will be buried beside her husband at the Zillah cemetery following the service.
