Erma Harris

October 20, 1926 — November 15, 2016

Erma Louise Harris, 90 of Granger Washington passed away November 15, 2016 at Sunnyside Community Hospital with her loved ones by her side. She was born October 20, 1926 in Thurman, Iowa to David and Laura Rhode. She was the youngest of five children. In 1934 during the Great Depression the family moved out west in an old Model A Ford to farm out on the Satus. While growing up on the Satus one of Erma's favorite things to do was ride horses and occasionally breaking them for neighbors. She also loved to ice skate on the pond below their home. Erma graduated from high school in Granger and in 1945 she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Delbert Harris. Together with their boys they continued the family tradition of Farming on the Sadus, which they did for thirty plus years. Erma and Delbert kept busy with the Booster Club, Lions Club, snowmobiling, and the gatherings that they had at their home, not to mention keeping up with their sons and their activities. Erma always wanted a girl since she only had sons. Her sons eventually blessed her with eleven grand daughters. Erma was very much involved with the activities of all of her family. She was known for being a great cook and her heart and her home was always open to anyone that showed up on her doorstep. She made sure that there was lunch or dinner available to all that stopped by. She was very independent all of her life and was able to stay in her home up until a week before she fell ill. Erma is preceded in death by her parents; David and Laura Rhode, Husband; Delbert Harris, Brothers; Albert Rhode, Clark Rhode, Cecil Rhode, and Oralee Payment.
