Erika Jane Oats Erika Jane Oats, age 38, passed away in Toppenish, WA on Sunday June 18, 2023. She was born in Yakima, WA on May 21, 1985 to Doris Ella Lewis and John Oats. Erika is an enrolled Yakama member with Chippewa Cree decadency. She grew up in the Toppenish area with a short brief time in Rocky Boy, Montana. She attended Toppenish schools up til the 8th grade, when she went to Yakama Nation Tribal School where she graduated with her diploma in “2004”. While at Tribal school she played basketball for both Varsity and JV squads, also on the lady eagles fast pitch team playing pitcher, short stop or 3rd base. In her younger years, she played for LISTEN program with the Little Hawks. While growing up she like to travel different places with her grandparents, Ernie and Emma Lewis, to attend family vacations, church and softball tourneys. Her hobbies were drawing, jamming out and cruising, watching and following her nieces and nephews in their sporting events. She was preceded in death by her mother Doris Lewis, her maternal grandparents Ernie & Emma Lewis, her paternal grandparents James & Madeline Oats, and grandparents Christine Slockish Sergeant and Reginald Sergeant, sibling Baby Lewis Arthur. She is survived by her father John Oats and step-dad Darrell Arthur Sr., her uncle Richard Lewis, her siblings: Darrell Arthur Jr., Elsie Arthur, Mathew (George) Arthur, Ernest Oats and Aviyana Arthur. Erika also survived by her nieces and nephews: Emma-Anne, Evelena, Edna, Maximus, Leon and Cylen Oats. Dressing will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in Wapato at Valley Hills funeral home at 11:00 AM, she will be taken to White Swan 1910 Shaker Church for overnight. Funeral services on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7:00 AM. Following services and viewing, she will be taken to final resting place at 1910 Shaker Church Cemetery.
