Emile Dorais

August 17, 1930 — October 28, 2017

Emile Joseph Dorais, age 87, of Moxee, finished his earthly journey October 28, 2017 at the Cottage in the Meadow. After suffering a stroke in July 2015 he never regained his speech or was able to go back home. He was born to Joseph Emery Dorais and Marie Alice (Royer) Dorais on August 17, 1930 at St.. Joseph Hospital in Concordia, Kansas. In January 1934 he came to Moxee with his parents and then lived on Postma Road his entire life. He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and attended school there through the 8th grade. He failed 1st grade because he couldn’t speak English as he only spoke French. In early June 1950 he was forced to take over the farming as his dad had a severe heart attack and was in the hospital all summer. The following year his father was well enough to take over most of the farm work but consulted Emile on a lot of problems. He was known as the Captain at the farm. Farming was not his calling and he taught himself to weld and eventually opened his own shop “Dorais weld-it”. He invented and built hop applicators for a living meanwhile thinking of other things, but never having time to follow through with them. He did a lot of side work including fixing the old school bell after the school burned down that can be found in front of the hall today. He gave the nephews their first jobs but most decided that was not their calling. On June 23, 1977 he married Helen Bogucki at Holy Rosary Church. For the next 32 years she was his bookkeeper and helpmate at the shop. He is survived by one sister Theresa (Jerry) Schmierer; several nieces and nephews and their families; 3 step-children: Sandra, Susie, and Doug, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Marie; a sister Julienne; and 3 brothers: Emery, Joe and Edward; and one step-son Mike. Rosary will be 6pm, Thursday, November 2, 2017 and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Friday, November 3, 2017 both at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (Moxee). Burial will follow the Mass at Holy Rosary Cemetery (Moxee). The family requests that memorial contributions be made to a local Catholic Charity in lieu of flowers.
