Ellen Davis

Ellen Blanche {Cory} Davis fought her final battle on Friday, February 9, 2018. Ellen was born on September 18, 1940 to Edward Cory and Blanche Statham Cory at their home in rural Amite, Louisiana. Ellen graduated from Independence High School with honors and from South Eastern Louisiana College. In 1962 Ellen was offered a job in the Zillah School District and moved all the way from Louisiana to Washington on her own. She remained with Zillah School District until 1970. After several years as a stay at home mom, she worked in the insurance industry at United Pacific Reliance and has remained close with several of her co-workers. For the past 25 years she has been a substitute teacher exclusively in the Zillah School District. She thoroughly enjoyed her relationships with the staff and students that have passed through over the years. Ellen married Richard L. Davis on July 13, 1963 in Independence, LA. Richard and Ellen were happily married until Richard’s passing in 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers Dick Cory and Walt Cory. She is survived by three sons Doug, Donnie, and Dan (Emily); brothers Bill Cory (Freddie) and Bob Cory (Sharon) and a sister-in-law she considered a sister Peggy Shaul (Rick). Also a special thank you to her good friend Kathy Johnson, who was truly a friend to Ellen. Ellen was a very proud grandmother to six grandchildren and six great grandchildren that she cherished them all and spent every minute she could with them. Ellen enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, following the Leopards and cooking large meals for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a contribution to the Zillah Alumni Scholarship Fund for students pursuing a career in education. Services are planned for Saturday February 17th at 11:00 am at the Christian Worship Center, 204 Cheyne Rd. in Zillah. A lunch will be held afterward in the same location, main dish provided but please bring side dishes and desserts.
