Ella Marie Bussert, 98, of Sunnyside, WA entered the gates of Heaven peacefully on Saturday October 7th 2023, at Sunnyside Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family.
Ella Marie was born at home, in Sunnyside to Floyd Turner and Florence (Story) Turner on July 18, 1925. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1943 and lived her whole life in the Sunnyside area.
Ella Marie met her future husband when she was 17 and waited 3 long years for him to return from his service in WWII. She was married to Clarence Homer Bussert Jr. on January 22, 1946, in a double ceremony with her best friend Katie Kincaide who married Francis Wattenbarger. Ella Marie and Homer (as Clarence was called) were married 63 years and made their home in Sunnyside where they raised 4 children. Ella Marie’s primary responsibilities were focused on home with their 4 children, but she also worked seasonally in various fruit harvesting and processing endeavors and helped her husband at the phone company. She was an extremely accomplished seamstress and quilter. They were active members of the Grace Brethren Church with Ella Marie singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and cooking at Camp Clear Lake.
Ella Marie is survived by her 2 sons, Homer Leroy (Susan) of Grandview, WA, and Daryl Lee (Marlene) of Waxhaw, NC, and daughter Danel Irene (Kenneth) of Port Orchard, WA; and 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Homer, daughter Charlene Marie, sister Ruth Barlow, and great-great grand-son Lukas Huth.
Sunnyside Assisted Living has been her home for these last 6 years and the family wishes to express their heart-felt thanks and appreciation to all the staff that showed her such love, kindness and good care.
