Elisa Hernandez

June 20, 1921 — July 25, 2017

Our precious Mother Elisa "Lecha" Hernandez left her Earthly home on July 25th 2017 at Emerald Circle Care Unit. Elisa was born on June 20th 1921 in Del Rio, Texas to Zoilo and Elena Hernandez. Elisa leaves a lasting legacy of family and love. She raised her family in Eagle Pass Texas before traveling to Wapato in 1963. She provided a caring and loving home for her children and also played an important role in helping care for her grandchildren as well as numerous other children in the Wapato area. She is well remembered by many adults who as children she helped raise. Many still refer to her as "Grandma Lecha". Grandma Lecha loved to cook, and any time she had visitors her first question was if they were hungry. Many of her grand children have fond memories of spending the night, getting to sleep on the "colchone" and waking up to the sound of her making tortillas. And every morning as family was stopping by to drop off their kids she would always have breakfast burritos waiting. Besides cooking, Grandma loved her garden, taking pride in her roses above all else. In her earlier years, she also loved to sew, making blankets for her family with all her love. Elisa was preceded in death by her parents Zoilo and Elena Hernandez, her brother Ruben and sisters Eva and Esperanza, her three children Andres Hernandez, Willie Gonzales, and Josfina "Pepa" Herrera and her dear friend of over 60 years Lydia Gonzales. She is survived by her daughter Anne (Jesse)Farias of Wapato, Roger (Laura) Gonzales of Centralia, Joe (Diana) Hernandez of Wapato, Tony (Marie) Hernandez of Wapato, and Frank Hernandez also of Wapato. She also leaves her grandchildren Blanca, Andy, Cindy, Willie Jr, Linda, Terri, Aubri, Andrew, Lencho, Laurie, Pat, Chuy, Lucy, Jo B, Ruben, Lani, Fernando, Davina, Elena, Tina, and several Great and Great-great grandchildren. She was especially close to her Granddaughter Lucy Alvarado and Great granddaughters Mari and Isa Arellano.
