Elida C. Rodriguez was born July 4, 1933 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 1, 2025 at the age of 91.
Elida C. Rodriguez was born to Eugenio Calvillo and Maria Saurez Calvillo in Edinburg, Texas. She was one of six sisters and one brother. She married Raul Rodriguez SR. in Edinburg on December 27, 1957.
Looking for a cooler climate and work, they moved their young family to Sunnyside, WA in 1960. Their family consisted of 4 children Raul Rodriguez Jr (Ruth), Lita Gonzalez, Tom Rodriguez (Renee) and Anita Briones (Gilbert). Mom had 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom would be a stay at home mom until all her children were attending school. She loved to cook and bake. Coming home from school to fresh homemade cookies or hand rolled tortillas was the best! She was always on the lookout for cookbooks. Looking for that special recipe that she would make for the family.
Mom loved to go camping and fishing as a family. During the summer, every weekend was spent camping with family and friends. Lots of potlucks, fish fries and laughter.
Once her children were all attending school, she commenced employment as a telephone operator with United Telephone Co. With technology and downsizing she chose to retire from the company. Afterwards she worked for a few years at Yakima Bait Co. Then she found work doing what she loved to do, a cook at the Sunnyside School District. After 11 years being a cook, she officially retired.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raul Rodriguez Sr., five sisters, Elodia de la Garza, Estela Saenz, Esparanza Salazar, Esther Ariaz, Eva Gloria Lopez and her brother Eugenio "Gene" Calvillo.
At mom's request, there will be no service. She will be greatly missed and loved by many.
