Elias Tapia

Elias Tapia, 83 died of heart failure February 28, 2020 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon Washington. He was born March 23, 1936, in Aguililla Michoacan the son of Elias Tapia Sr. and Hermelinda Ceja . Elias came to the United States in the early 70's and started his career as a cook in a little restaurant called Zavalla's in Othello, WA. Elias loved to cook and whenever there was a family celebration he was the first to offer to cook to please. His specialty was always birria de chivo, a slowly cooked goat in a savory red sauce. After working as a cook for several years, Elias went to work at a potato processing plant called Chef Reddy in Othello WA where he met his spouse Lucilla Benavidez who passed away in 1994. After working there for several years he was offered a job working for the same company as a farm laborer where he had the opportunity to do more outdoor activities that he enjoyed like hunting quail, dove, pheasants and deer and occasionally a coyote if one got in his way. Elias Tapia will be remembered as a great cook, an average hunter and a man with a great sense of humor. He passed many of his traits on to his kids and nephews and nieces and leaves behind special memories that will live on in tale's and stories for many years to come, Elias will be deeply missed.
