Eldy M. Slagg
Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah
Eldy M. Slagg, born March 19, 1924 in Emmett, ND joined his family Monday evening, June 3, 2013. He came from North Dakota to the Yakima Valley in 1937 with his family and attended the Granger School District.
Eldy was a farmer and a cattle rancher. He married Beverly Jean Melton in 1954 and they moved to Oregon for a few years but returned to the Lower Yakima Valley where until she passed away in 1990 and he resided for 50 years and opened up new ground for farming, he enjoyed his work and was very good at it. Many people called him a Legend. He had a way with animals and a special ability to make things grow. His passion was his work, in fact he would have rather been working than do much of anything else. Up until he entered the nursing home he was still calling on prices for seed. Eldy also loved sports. He kept up on the local high school and college football and basketball teams.
Survivors include Colleen McDaniel, his one daughter; Grandson Dustin Slagg, who papa raised as his son. 3 step children Candace Monette, Cary Constantine, and Connette Adams, who are children from his first wife but acknowledged as his own. Cary farmed with papa many summers. 4 granddaughters Melanie Hinshaw, Heather and Vanessa Olson, Christoleena Anadis; 9 great grand children and 15 nieces and nephews. He was adopted by most of the young men and friends of Dustys.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Sarah Slagg; Beverly Jean Melton, 3 sisters, Lila Richardson, Hallie Manning, Nettie Eglet, and 2 brothers, Chuck and Leo Slagg; Priscilla Dills Slagg.
Graveside service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Zillah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice. A small get together will follow to celebrate his life at Dick and Kay Eglet’s home. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
