Elaine Frank Smiscon, “Hyetwisa” age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Yakima WA. She was born May 30, 1929, to Max Frank and Sallie Shaloo, in White Swan WA. She married Walter Smiscon on August 22, 1958. She retired after working many years as a head cook for AAOA, displaying a kind heart and beautiful smile that would light a room. Elaine truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, attending pow wows, making shawls, food gathering, beading bags, making necklaces, root digging, berry picking, attending long house and spending time with family. Elaine and Walter during their time with us continue to support and assist with the Washington’s Birthday Pow Wow Celebration at Toppenish Long house. Elaine had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She is survived by her brother, Larson Frank; Louise Napyer Price; daughter, Walter Smiscon Jr; Son, & Laurie Thacker Daughter, Step children: Maltida Smiskin & Mary Jane Nelson and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family who preceded her were her siblings; Lucille Frank, Thomas J George, Velma Frank, Isaac George, Cecelia Forcier, Ida Price, Maltida Sharloo and children; Charles Sweowat, Sandra Smiscon, Patricia Minthorn, David Cruickshank, and Grace Gardner. Family, friends, and others whose lives Elaine touched are invited to the dressing/viewing @ VALLEY HILLS FUNERAL HOME in Wapato WA, on Wed., March 20, 2019 @10am to reminisce, and share in celebration of our Elders life. Immediately following the funeral home we will transport, to her home and overnight services at the Toppenish Longhouse following with a Sunrise Burial Thurs, March 21, 2019 at the Methodist Cemetery, in White Swan WA.
