Edwin Schelert was born to Albert and Lydia Schelert on April 27, 1939, in Glascow, Montana. He went to be with The Lord on February 17, 2024.
Edwin was the 10th of 14 children. He moved with his family to Toppenish, Washington in 1947, where he grew up working on the family farm.
Prior to getting married in 1961, Edwin worked on the Burt C. Decker Ranch moving sprinklers and killing rattlesnakes, which was the highlight of his job.
Ed had two daughters: Melonie Denise, married to Rod Leslie and Melisa Deann who is with Donnie Stevens. Ed's 3 grandsons: Alex Leslie, Eric Pedro who is married to Amanda Kneeves and Joel Leslie. Ed also had 8 great grandchildren.
Ed worked for 14 years hanging dry wall with and for his brother Henry who owned the company, Lee's Drywall. Ed had to stop working for his brother due to a knee injury that lasted for 2 years, during which time, he had 4 surgeries and went to the Adult Education Center to earn his G.E.D.
Ed was active in his Church, The Church of God (Seventh Day). Ed enjoyed taking the Toppenish Youth Group Brothers and Sisters boating- B-B-QING and playing games games on the beach at Vantage. He enjoyed watching softball, basketball and baseball. But his #1 passion was fishing; even if that meant he went by himself. He also loved to go to the Yakima Speedway, camping or just handing out with his girls and friends as well watching the kids play. Ed started bowling with his girls, their families and friends. Ed became pretty darn good at bowling.
Ed also went to J.M. Perry Trade School to become a Sanitation Enginneer. This was short lived when he got a job with the Yakima School District. He worked for numerous schools where he was known for his kind heart and love for working with the grade school kids. They called him “Mr. Ed.” He threw them pizza parties, played marbles and jacks with them, because they helped him keep the school grounds clean.
There will be a Celebration of Life on April 27, 2024, at the Yakima Eagles, located at 307 W. Chestnut in Yakima, WA.
