Eduarda (Lala) Rodriguez, beloved mother, grandmother, friend and sister, passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. Lala was the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters and the mother of 6 children. Lala was born in Banquete, Texas to Enrique and Leocadia Sanchez. She married Martin Rodriguez on February 2, 1941. She and her husband moved to Granger, Washington in 1954. They started out as Migrant Laborers. Later, she obtained her Associates Degree from Yakima Valley College. She taught at Roosevelt Elementary School as a Teacher’s Assistant until her retirement. Lala loved and enjoyed her students, giving them much love and patience. Her students knew her as “La Maestra”. She also loved teaching her grandchildren. She retired from the Granger School District in 1989. Lala loved history and traveling,. She was an avid reader of history and westerns. Everyday at 7pm you could find her sitting in her chair by the window watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and being surrounded by her family. She is survived by her 6 children: Martin (Theresa), Yolanda Guzman, Maria, Hildo (Margaret), Phillip (Nancy), and Maryann Wheaton (Bill), 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin L. Rodriguez, two daughters (Berta and Diane), and a grandchild, Lupito (Juni) Guzman. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Lala Memorial Fund to support the migrant program @Roosevelt Elementary where she taught. Checks should be made to the Lala Memorial Fund at Key Bank in Zillah. Contributions will be collected until May 15th.
