Douglas Downen

Douglas Glenn Downen made his final journey with the Lord on March 27, 2016. He was born in Hickory Valley, TN on May 25, 1926 to Robert Downen and Velma (William) Downen; and was raised by Cuba Downen after the death of Velma. In 1943 Dad joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon discharge from Fort Lewis he moved to Yakima where he met and married Sarah (Aichele) Downen and had 4 children. He worked as a General Contractor in the Yakima Valley until his retirement. Later in life he met and was married for 34 years to Cora Downen where they enjoyed camping and traveling until her death in January 2007. Dad always loved and served as a messenger for God. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings, and wife Cora Downen. He is survived by his 4 children: Sharon (Larry) Whitmire, Janine Bliss, Diane Beaman all of Yakima, Steven Downen of Spokane WA; 8 grand children and 14 great grand children; 3 brothers: Leon (Ann) Downen, Joes (Sadie) Downen, Robert (Edna) Downen; and sister Jerriette (Jimmy) Trainum. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm, Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Ln., Yakima). Graveside service will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 1, 2016 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park (3001 Terrace Heights Drive) with Military Honors.
