Dorothy Irene Ireland (Ennis), age 82, passed away at The Cottage in the Meadow on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Dorothy was born December 26th, 1932 to George and Ruby Ennis in Buena, WA. She spent most of her younger years growing up on Chinook Pass, where she worked at the Pond Café, the family owned business, and attended school in Naches. On October 14th, 1951, she was married to James E. Ireland. Jim and Dorothy lived in West Valley most of their married life where they farmed and raised their three children. Dorothy was a hard working mom, a beloved grandma, a loved sister and treasured Auntie. She enjoyed gardening and was known by many for her great cooking. No one ever came to the house, but what she didn’t have something delicious for them to eat! Most of all, Dorothy loved her family. There wasn’t a day go by that she wasn’t caring for someone and got no more pleasure than when she was spending time with her family!
Dorothy is survived by her children Tom Ireland of Omak, Greg and wife, Anne Ireland of Yakima and Kathy Taylor of Naches, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her brother Bob and wife Louise as well many other in-laws, out-laws and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, siblings and their spouses, Mary and Victorian Cantu, June Ennis, Viola Schreiber, Maxine and Dick Matthews, Earl and Dee Ennis and Lyle and Norma Ennis.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at The Ponderosa Assisted Living and Retirement, Fieldstone Memory Care and The Cottage in the Meadow for their love and care of Mom.
A memorial service will take place at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima on Saturday, December 19th at 2:00. A celebration of life will be held next summer.
