On December 13, 2023, Doris Marie Knight, age, 78 of White Swan, WA., awoke in Heaven. Doris was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer on October 6, 2023. Although a short time on the calendar, Doris dealt with a great deal of physical challenges with this catastrophic disease.
Doris was born on December 2, 1945, in Yakima to Marvin and Noriene Hill of Zillah. The following year the Hill family moved to a farm in the Wapato area, where Doris attended school, graduating in 1964. She met her husband Rickey Knight while in school and was married February 6, 1965. The newlyweds moved to the Knight farm in White Swan, where Rickey's grandfather homesteaded the land. Their only son, Richard was born October of 1970 and Richard continues to live and farm the property today.
Doris was a faithful follower of her Lord, Jesus Christ, sharing her gift of teaching Bible classes, playing the organ, and helping others so graciously at the Wapato Church of the Nazarene for many years. Her greatest love was being a devoted wife and mother. Doris was a quite soul, many things to many people in many ways. But first and foremost, she was a woman of God. She lived, talked, walked, and loved that way. The number of people she has impacted for Christ will only be know when we join her in heaven.
She was preceded in going home by her parents, and her husband of 55 years who passed in June of 2020.
Her son, Richard Knight (Annette), brother Michael Hill (Rose), sisters Ruth Foster (Steve), Mary Cates (Jim), and nieces and nephews will carry her love in their hearts forever.
The family would like to thank the staff of Arcadia Healthcare for their tender care of Doris in her final days.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Pancreatic Cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at Valley Hills Funeral Home at 2600 Business Lane, Yakima, WA. With internment to following at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
