Donald Lines

May 28, 1925 — May 8, 2015

Donald Lines left the constraints of this earthly world and entered the freedom of Heaven on May 8, 2015. Don was raised on a farm on lower Michigan. He served 3 years in the military, where he was trained as a diesel mechanic. In 1948 he married his wife, Judy, and they came by car and travel trailer to the Yakima Valley in 1949. He became a Machinery Mechanic for Minneapolis/Moline, built substations for PP&L, and worked for Webb Tractor. Most of his working years were spent a hod carrier and later worked at Hanford Nuclear Facility. After he retired, Don contributed to many hours of community service through The Cascadians, Volunteer Chore Services, RSVP, The Agricultural Museum and his own initiative, filling the needs for those who “fell between the cracks”. His main contribution was helping to build over 1,200 handicap ramps, allowing people to maintain their independence. He thoroughly enjoyed hiking in the mountains and set foot on the summit of Mt. Adams. He also was active in Volkswalking and overnight bicycle trips. He had a knack for finding out of the way places on the road less traveled and found beauty in God’s creation along the way. Don was a peaceful man who knew no strangers and could charm most any dog. He gave from a generous heart that often was bigger than his wallet. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy, son, Donald, and granddaughter, Heather, and his sister and brother. He is survived by 2 sisters, 2 daughters, Gail Lines, and Sandy (Bruce) Wilcox, five grandsons, Eric Lines, Ryan Wilcox, Douglas Wilcox, Joel Lines, and Kevin Lines, and five great grandsons. He lived a good full life and is now at peace. Join his family in imagining him picking perfect fruit in the Garden of Eden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to CWAM, Salvation Army, or the Yakima Humane Society. A Celebration Reception is planned for Thursday from 10-12 at the Fulbright Park in Union Gap. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
