Doll Green

October 1, 1913 — March 21, 2017

Elvina Marguerite “DOLL” Green Doll Green, 103+, passed away at Summitview Living Care on March 21, 2017. She was born in Yakima, WA October 1, 1913 to Marvin V. Walker and Louise Sorenson Walker. Her father did not like her given name and said he would call her “DOLLY”. The name stuck and she was either called DOLLY or DOLL her entire life. She grew up on the T.E. Bryant Ranch, which was located where the West Valley High School is today. She helped her father plant the row of Poplar trees that for many years crested that hill. She and her sisters Francis and Helen went to school at Wide Hollow and rode the trolley into town to attend Franklin Jr. High and Yakima High School. She married her husband, Lemuel Green on June 27, 1931. They lived and traveled in several states due to Lem’s employment. They later returned to live and work in the Valley. Doll became a waitress at Dick’s Restaurant on S. 2nd Street where she worked for around 30 years. She had a large group of customer friends that she referred to as her “lunch crowd”. After Lem’s death she decided she wanted to see all of the 50 states, which she accomplished over the years. She also traveled to Europe with her sister, Helen. She took numerous cruises with her cousin, Wes Sorenson. She was happiest when she was traveling and loved taking road trips. In later years she played Pinochle with friends several times a week. She was an avid sports fan and was proud of the fact that she had several times thrown out the first pitch at the Yakima Bears games. She had a wonderful sense of humor that drew people to her and her mischievous smile will be missed. She is survived by her niece, Delaine Cowdrey; great nieces, Kendall Cowdrey and Amber Robinson; great great niece, Alexa Robinson; great nephew, Marvin Gohl; and nephew Ken Reinmuth (Teressa). Also surviving Doll are numerous special cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Louise Walker; sisters, Francis Gohl and Helen Wall; husband Lem Green; nephew Ken Cowdrey; and special friend Lee Riley. Doll’s family would like to thank the Staff of Summitview Living Care for the special care and attention that they offered to her during her time there. At Doll’s request there will not be a service to mark her passing. She had a special zest for life and the following poem is one that she lived by. “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and shouting ~ WOW ~ WHAT A RIDE!!!” To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Doll Green, please visit our flower store.
