Diane Ortiz (Maltos), 87, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Diane was the baby sister of 10 siblings. She was born on August 26, 1938, in Edinburg, Texas, to Guadalupe Muñoz and Luis Maltos. In 1945, Diane moved with her family to Washington State, where she would build a life centered on love and family.

Diane attended Wapato High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. It was also there that she met the love of her life, Raymond Ortiz. They were married on March 23, 1960, in Wapato, surrounded by family and dear friends. Diane and Ray were married 66 years and within those years together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Theresa, Tracy, and Ray Jr.

In her early years, Diane worked at the Del Monte warehouse during the day while attending Central Washington University at night. Through determination and perseverance, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. Diane went on to teach at several schools throughout the valley before finding her home in the Sunnyside School District, where she devoted 20 years to shaping young minds. She retired in 2005, leaving behind a lasting legacy of care, patience, and inspiration.

Beyond her professional life, Diane’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and devoted grandmother, always her grandchildren’s biggest supporter at every game, recital, and milestone. After retirement, she was overjoyed to welcome her first great-granddaughter and spent countless cherished days caring for her. Diane lovingly devoted much of her time to her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness.

Diane had a deep love for music and could often be found in her kitchen listening to Mexican songs, dancing and laughing with her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed oldies but goodies, filling her home with warmth, rhythm, and joy. Above all, Diane treasured time with her family, creating memories that will be held close for generations.

She is survived by her three children Theresa Wallace, Tracy (Jim) Ortiz, Raymond Ortiz Jr. Her grandchildren Sharday (Jay) Ortiz, Xochi Garcia, Chanel (Kameron) Peters, Shelby (Andre) Gurule, and Chase Wallace.
