Diana Chu

July 28, 1929 — October 26, 2015

Diana Wen-chi Chu, born on 7-28-1929 in China, passed away 10-26-2015 at Yakima Memorial Hospital following a brief hospitalization. Diana was a graduate of Nazareth (now Spalding) College in Nazareth, Kentucky, with a B.A. in Music and a B.S. in Applied Music. She did graduate work at the Cincinnati Conservatory for Music (now part of the University of Cincinnati), and spent many years as an instructor with the Wilson School of Music in Yakima, Washington. Upon closure of the Wilson School of Music Diana became a private piano teacher in Yakima giving many lessons to local children. After retiring Diana kept busy by working at the McKinley Elementary School as an assistant cook, gardening, growing peaches, and painting her house three times herself. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and do needle point, and through the years made many lovely gifts for family and friends. In past years Diana was a member of both the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and the Ladies Musical Club of Yakima. She was very active with the International Folk Dancing Group, fundraised for numerous local animal shelter and rescue organizations, worked with local Yakima Indians, and volunteered for many years at the St. Paul Thanksgiving meal. Diana is survived by Hugo Hsiung, youngest of her four siblings, and his wife Margaret, sister-in-law Florence Chu, brother-in-law William Ng, four nephews, four nieces, five grand-nephews and four grand-nieces. A celebration of Diana’s life will be held at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima on Saturday, November 14 at 2:00PM.
