Demetrius Michael Maltos

December 26, 1967 – October 12, 2025

Demetrius was born on December 26, 1967, to Eron Maltos and Alicia Urrutia Maltos

who had 11 children. Demetrius was their 10 th child.

Demetrius was raised in Granger, Washington, in a home located at the foot of Cherry

Hill. Along with love, laughter and good memories, it was a home with a huge garden, a

large yard, and in a neighborhood filled with grandparents, cousins, and friends. All of

which created a childhood filled with chores, fresh food on the table, and limitless

adventures of backyard games; bike riding; and hiking and sledding down Cherry Hill.

Demetrius graduated from Granger High School and found his way to Seattle to enroll in

early childhood classes at North Seattle College. He lived in Seattle for many years

before finding his way back to the Yakima Valley and ultimately settled in Yakima.

Demetrius had a great love for cooking, especially baking – bringing home desserts that

became family holiday must-haves. He enjoyed reading, the theater and was a

voracious movie-goer; even helping to “host” a “Red-Carpet” event with friends who

would gather to watch the Academy Awards on TV. Demetrius, even at a young age,

was also known for his sense of humor. He and his younger brother Timo will always be

remembered for the family entertainment they provided with their skits and stories.

When aunts, uncles, and cousins visited they would both perform the latest sketch they

had secretly been working on. And the family would laugh and clap and often ask them

to “do it again!” It was like having our own family version of Saturday Night Live

performances!

Demetrius is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his best friend and

loving partner, Gary Wallace; siblings Gloria Lemos, Mary Ann Valencourt (Darrell);

Eron Maltos (Nina); Francisco Maltos (Sylvia); Dave Maltos (Julie); Cynthia Morales;

Diego Maltos (MaryJane); Beatrice Maltos; Marcelino Maltos (Hope); Timoteo Maltos;

and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Despite living with health challenges, Demetrius maintained his sense of humor and

warm-hearted spirit. He will be missed and we are comforted knowing he is again in the

warm embrace of our parents.
