David Olivas

July 11, 1963 — December 18, 2023

David Olivas was born to Juan Olivas and Maria Estella Rebollosa on July 11, 1963, in Toppenish, WA. David spent most of his life growing up and living in Toppenish where he graduated with the class of 1982. Go Wildcat Nation! While in middle school and high school he played football, baseball and was on the wrestling team. David played babe Ruth baseball every summer from age 13-18 under coach Leon Strom. After graduating he attended Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA from fall of 1984 through spring of 1987 and studied Sociology. David spent much of his free time fishing, playing outside and watching his favorite football team The Miami Dolphins. His other pastimes were watching The Young and The Restless and listening to his favorite band Kiss. Since he was a young lad, he always had a soft spot for animals especially dogs. It's hard to remember when he didn't have one. He raised and nurtured so many. He loved all dogs especially his beloved SLASH. David was a laborer and also worked at All Valley Window cleaning alongside his brother Joe. And later he took care of our mother up until her passing. David is survived by his sister's Lydia Alvarado (Manuel), Sylvia Forgey (Ron), Santa Olivas and brother's Joe Olivas (Janell), Alphonso "Fonzie" Guzman and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Maria Estella and father Juan, Sister Virginia (Vicky) Olivas, brother John Olivas, and his longtime partner/girlfriend Mary Andy. Mary left behind a daughter Josephine Andy which allowed David to step in as a Stepdad. At last, he and Mary are reunited again. That gives us "his and her" family peace. I see them holding hands, giggling, dancing, teasing each other and happy together. Exactly how we always saw them. A special thank you to Emerald Care nursing home staff and nurses in Wapato, WA. and the Cottage in the Meadow Hospice Center in Yakima, WA. There will be a Rosary and celebration of life at the Zillah Funeral Home from 11:00-1:00 on Saturday January 13, 2024, Followed by a memorial reception at Resurrection Church in Zillah.
