Curtis Strausz

Curtis Alan Strausz, 81, long-time resident of Cowiche, passed away at home on March 2nd, 2014. He was born January 26, 1933 in Yakima to Ralph O. and Margaret Strausz. He graduated from Highland High School in 1951 and Washington State University in 1955. He returned after college to Cowiche where he was a partner in the R.O. Strausz and Sons orchard. He married Mary Lou Bieber on July 29th, 1961 and raised two daughters. He was involved in many groups related to agriculture and the upper Yakima Valley community including the Highland Horticulture Club, Washington State Horticulture Association, Yakima Valley Fieldman Association, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Cowiche Volunteer Fire Department. Aside from agriculture, Curt enjoyed his family, genealogy, history, WSU Cougs, fishing, wildlife, photography and woodworking. After retirement he enjoyed traveling abroad, including trips to the South Pacific, Europe, and many cruises. He was a loving, caring husband and father and will be missed. Curt is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Strausz of Cowiche, brother Stanley Strausz of Cowiche, daughter Jane Webber and her husband Brian Webber of Everett, daughter Debbie Anderson and her husband John Anderson of Seattle, and grandchildren Bradley and Erin Webber, and Anika and Erik Anderson. A celebration of Life will be held at Woman’s Century Club, Yakima, Saturday, April 5, 2 to 4 p.m. For those who wish to honor Curt's memory, donations can be made to the Yakima Valley Museum.
