Constance “Connie” Cross, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022 at Cottage in the Meadow. She was born on February 17, 1937 in Battle Creek, MI to Raymond and Doris Priest.
Her early years were spent in Battle Creek where she met her husband George Cross. They were married August 29, 1959 and had been married almost 45 years before George’s passing in 2002. They had 2 children, Mark (Maureen) Cross, Cyndi (Sam Grasmick) Cross, 7 grandchildren, Christopher Lowe, Brennan (Emily) Lowe, Carlee Lowe, Katie Cross, Kami Cross, Kacie Cross and Thomas (Emi) Cross and 2 great-grandchildren, Bennett and Brycen Lowe.
Connie and George moved the family around quite a bit. After leaving Battle Creek, they moved to San Jose, CA, where both of their children were born, then it was on to Costa Mesa, CA, Pasadena, CA, Portland, OR, Bellbrook, OH and finally settling in Yakima, WA, in 1972.
Connie loved her grandchildren more than anything in life. They gave her such joy and she spoiled them rotten. She made the most precious memories for them. From trips to Cannon Beach every year, to Christmas crafts day, making “nuts and bolts” the weekend after Thanksgiving and making every holiday and birthday extra special. She attended as many of her grandchildren’s events as she possibly could, from sporting events, to dance recitals, to acting in plays, to games the girls were cheerleading at. She enjoyed being involved in their lives.
She never forgot anyone’s birthday weather it was friend or family.
In the late 70’s, early 80’s, she co-owned a kitchen store, Cook’s Corner, in the Yakima Mall, with her best friend Doris Comiskey.
Connie loved going for rides in the country with her husband. George loved to drive and Connie loved to ride along. They had many adventures together. A lot of trips to Seattle and Portland, to their condo in La Quinta, CA, across the country to watch their horses race, Hawaii, Sunriver, OR, Cannon Beach, OR, which was one of their favorites and so many more.
Connie LOVED to shop. Antiquing was her favorite. The thrill of the hunt. When she and George built their house on Scenic Dr, she filled it with all the treasures she found.
Connie is survived by her two children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister Karol (John) Wiles, three nieces and one nephew.
We will miss you mom, grandma (gma), great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend. We love you!
As per Connie’s request, there will be no formal service held. Her family will hold a private gathering to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation of your choice.
